Business & Investor Relations Development (BIRD) Assoc Partner/Partner

Preamble: SV buys equities in startups low and sells them high.  For instance, buy at $100,000 and sell at $1mil, maybe after 3 to 5 years.  The difference is its capital gains (profits).  The only way for SV to reach this profit is for us to help them grow.  SV does it by way of growing their distribution, sales and funding. 

This is where BIRDs come in, to bring resources to the startups so that they can eventually reach level 2.  BIRDs are expected to:

- generate users, followers, clients, partnerships etc

- improve cap-tables, bring in advisors, obtain licences etc

- generate sales, purchase orders etc

- raise funds, obtain loans, resolve accounts receivable issues etc

and more...

a. Job Scope.​

  • Assoc Partners:

    • Junior/mid-level sales role; locals only (PR or SC)

    • To generate sales & business partnerships for SV's Portfolio Companies (PC)

    • To facilitate future funding rounds for PCs

    • Sales KPI driven (>2X of basic pay)
       

  • Partners:

    • All required of Assoc Partners

    • To work with Institutes of Higher Learning (ITEs, polytechnics, universities etc), Statutory boards and business platforms and guilds

    • KPIs driven, in the form of sales and quality of partnerships
       

  • A 4-month on-job training is provided for all; basic pay starts in month #2 onwards​
     

  • Working Arrangement: Typically 2 to 3 days in office per work; work-from-home otherwise

 

b. Type of employment/Package.​

  • Basic pay - pegged to last drawn pay 

  • Contract (12 months): basic pay + commissions

  • Permanent Position (>12 months): basic pay + commissions

c. Who is eligible?  

  • Thick-skinned, likeable and willing to do whatsoever it takes to close deals

  • Networker, someone who likes dealing with students, startups and Small & Medium Enterprises

  • Has connections to startups, business groups and networking platforms for startups and SMEs

  • Basic accounting/finance/business knowledge is a plus

  • Partners:

    • Has connections to IHLs, schools and statutory boards

    • Able to travel around the South East Asia region for work (typically short trips of 1-3 nights)

d. Who is NOT eligible?  Anyone:

  • unwilling to learn new things or perform tasks beyond his/her predefined scope

  • with a high personal burn-rate  (as this is a junior role that's comms-based)

  • with a gambling problem or debts from speculative activities

  • who takes too long to reply a call/Whatsapp text from HQ

  • very particular about ONLY working during office hours

Startup Ambassador ("SA") <<New!>>

Preamble: Startups face a gamut of challenges, the greatest of which is the lack of traction.  SV is seeking SAs to help increase traction for its portfolio companies.  This is a learning opportunity for anyone passionate about startups and VC, and seeking to be part of the action.  

a. Job Scope.​​

  • To generate traction for SV's portfolio companies in the form of increasing distribution and sales.

    • Distribution - to increase downloads, likes, followers, customers, accounts etc.​

    • Sales - to increase the number of paying customers, to up-sell etc

    • Commitment level.  Free-lance with minimum targets to hit.  May meet in office once/twice a month if necessary.

b. Benefits.​

  • Mentorship.  Advice, green-lanes and referrals for the SA's own startup.

  • Learning Opportunity.  Product training will be provided, as well as generic VC-related modules

  • Business Opportunities.  Networking events, job referrals, green-lane to pitching opportunities.

  • Commissions - typically 10% to 20% of sales brought in.

c. Who is eligible?  

  • Individuals passionate about startups and VC, especially those running their own startups or about to do so

  • Individuals who are likeable and willing to learn and contribute

  • Students and retirees are welcome to apply; not restricted to SG locals

d. Who is NOT eligible?

  • Persons who are skeptical about small businesses

  • Persons seeking to get rich (the commissions will be modest as these are startups without great products or sales)

Venture Associates/Senior Associates

a. Job Scope.​​

  • To manage existing business accounts

  • To curate, manage and troubleshoot investment portfolios

  • To bring in consulting projects

  • Training is provided

b. Package.​

  • Expected pay range after confirmation: 10-20% above last pay

  • Employee Stock Option available for high achievers

c. Who is eligible?  

  • Good with numbers and operations

  • Someone who likes dealing with people, startups and Small & Medium Enterprises

  • Pleasant disposition; able to match with SV's working style and culture

  • Minimum #years of relevant experience: 3

  • Able to travel around the South East Asia region for work (typically short trips of 1-3 nights)

d. Who is NOT eligible?

  • Anyone who is risk adverse, lives for the comfort of a desk job or is unwilling to learn things
